Cookson, Troy Junior High School earn Momentum Award

The Troy City School district is proud to announce that two of its buildings — Cookson Elementary School and Troy Junior High School — have each received the prestigious Momentum Award from the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
The award recognizes schools that demonstrate significant improvement in student academic growth and performance as measured on the state report card.
The Momentum Award highlights buildings that show strong gains in their Performance Index scores from one year to the next while maintaining high overall ratings. Cookson Elementary achieved a notable increase in its Performance Index, earning 4 stars overall. Troy Junior High School also earned recognition for its impressive progress, contributing to the district’s continued strong performance on the state report card.
“These Momentum Awards are a powerful testament to the dedication of our students, educators, support staff and families at Cookson Elementary and Troy Junior High,” said Chris Piper, Superintendent of Troy City Schools. “We are seeing real, measurable growth because our teams are focused on high-quality instruction, supporting every learner, and fostering a culture where students are challenged and encouraged to reach their full potential. I couldn’t be prouder of the hard work happening in these buildings every single day.”
Cookson Elementary School, which serves students in grades K-5, and Troy Junior High School continue to build on a strong foundation of academic excellence and inclusive learning environments.
These awards add to Troy City Schools’ recent successes on the state report card, where the district has earned 4.5 stars overall, including a 5-star rating in Progress.
“Receiving the Momentum Award at the building level reflects our district-wide commitment to continuous improvement,” Piper said. “We will keep building on this momentum to ensure every student in Troy City Schools has the opportunity to thrive academically and personally.”
